Daniel Dos Santos pulls out of EBU title fight against Brad Rea

Daniel Blenda Dos Santos

BRAD Rea’s run of bad luck seems set to continue as his clash with Daniel Blenda Dos Santos was canned with just hours until the main event in York Hall. Rea had already stepped in as a late replacement for Shakan Pitters to contest the 175-pound belt, but the champion has now withdrawn from the contest.

Rea, who was last seen toppling Adam Hepple in round three of their VIP-promoted clash in Farnworth, had a recent pull-out in February when he was removed from the Beterbiev-Bivol II undercard. Swedish opponent Constantino Nanga dropped out injured on that occasion and no replacement was found.

Rea took to social media to explain how gutted he was, having put in the miles during a hard camp. Now the 27-year-old Stretford man has been forced to relive that experience in even more difficult circumstances.

Dos Santos, 34, most recently picked up the European title by outpointing countryman Thomas Faure in France. The Oise boxer holds a 22-1 (10 KOs) record. It is unclear at the time of writing why he has withdrawn from this scheduled defence. GBM Sports are promoting the show, which is being televised live on DAZN.
