Cecilia Braekhus to make history in Norway on October 1

Cecilia Braekhus

CECILIA BRAEKHUS, widely considered to be the best female professional boxer on the planet, will headline the first boxing show in Norway since 1980.

On October 1, Braekhus – originally born in Colombia though raised in Norway by her foster parents – will defend her WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF world female welterweight titles.

In 1981 professional boxing was outlawed in Norway, prompting Braekhus to move to Germany to ply her trade. In 2014 the ban was lifted, and later this year Braekhus will fight for the first time in her home country, where she is fiercely popular.

Having previously worked with the Sauerlands and K2 Promotions, Braekhus has set up her own First Lady Promotions company, which will promote the show in October.

An opponent has not yet been named for Braekhus, who returned from injury in February by outpointing Chris Namus. At the time, Cecilia was the only boxer in the world to have completely unified a division and successfully defended those titles.

She remains the only female boxer in history to have ever unified a division.

No other fights have yet been confirmed for the card, which takes place at The Spectrum in Oslo.
