Carl Froch predicts winner from Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao

CARL FROCH will be an expert analyst for UK broadcasters Sky Sports as part of their on-site team in Las Vegas for Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao on May 2. Nottingham’s “Cobra” could not be happier with the gig.

“I’m fortunate enough to be part of the Sky broadcasting team,” he beamed. “I’m very excited. If I wasn’t out there, I’d certainly be sat in my house, with a few of the lads round, getting it on Sky Box Office.”

Ahead of what appears likely to be a rewarding busman’s holiday for Froch, the four-time super-middleweight king offered some insightful pre-fight commentary exclusively to Boxing News.

“My prediction is simple and plain: Floyd Mayweather on points,” he asserted. “He’s absolutely brilliant and has proven time and time again that he can, quite effectively, make it look easy. He works hard in the gym but sometimes it looks like he’s not having to work hard while he’s fighting.

“But, having said that, you’ve got to give Manny Pacquiao a massive chance because if he backs Mayweather up with educated pressure and workrate, he could take quite a wide decision. Mayweather has shown when he’s under pressure, he knows how to deal with it but he loses rounds. He’s past his best, Mayweather, he’s had far more fights than me, got more miles on the clock. At his age, he’s not getting any faster or fitter. But Pacquiao is also over the hill. He’s been knocked out, lost on points, but he’s fit and determined and a good game plan – which his trainer Freddie Roach has talked about – if he takes what’s there, if he punches whatever is front of him – he’ll be nicking round after round if Mayweather doesn’t respond, and he doesn’t tend to like to mix it up. But the smart money is definitely on Mayweather points.”
