Canelo Alvarez: ‘What Gennady Golovkin says doesn’t bother me’

Gennady Golovkin weigh in

CANELO ALVAREZ has issued a harsh rebuttal after Gennady Golovkin accused him of cheating. Alvarez maintains, that even though he failed a drug test, and has now withdrawn from his rematch with Golovkin, he did not deliberately consume an illegal substance.

He hit back at Golovkin saying, โ€œWhat Golovkin or his team say does not bother me at all. Because number one, theyโ€™re not doctors, theyโ€™re not the experts.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t pay attention to them,โ€ he continued. โ€œIt sounds more to me like an excuse for not wanting to fight me, like heโ€™s scared, to be honest.โ€

Oscar De La Hoya, Caneloโ€™s promoter, backed up his man, maintaining that the failed test was due to eating contaminated meat in Mexico and that Alvarez would not deliberately cheat.

โ€œHis honour means everything. His passion for the sport, since he was 15 years old when he turned professional is like no other. Heโ€™s proud of what he accomplished and Iโ€™ve never met an athlete or a fighter whoโ€™s so proud of what heโ€™s accomplished,โ€ De La Hoya said.

โ€œWe strongly feel that Canelo is one of the most honourable fighters on the planet today.โ€
