CANELO ALVAREZ has issued a harsh rebuttal after Gennady Golovkin accused him of cheating. Alvarez maintains, that even though he failed a drug test, and has now withdrawn from his rematch with Golovkin, he did not deliberately consume an illegal substance.
He hit back at Golovkin saying, โWhat Golovkin or his team say does not bother me at all. Because number one, theyโre not doctors, theyโre not the experts.โ
โI donโt pay attention to them,โ he continued. โIt sounds more to me like an excuse for not wanting to fight me, like heโs scared, to be honest.โ
Oscar De La Hoya, Caneloโs promoter, backed up his man, maintaining that the failed test was due to eating contaminated meat in Mexico and that Alvarez would not deliberately cheat.
โHis honour means everything. His passion for the sport, since he was 15 years old when he turned professional is like no other. Heโs proud of what he accomplished and Iโve never met an athlete or a fighter whoโs so proud of what heโs accomplished,โ De La Hoya said.
โWe strongly feel that Canelo is one of the most honourable fighters on the planet today.โ
