Can Jessie Vargas overcome Tim Bradley at welterweight?

Main event

The current WBA โ€˜regularโ€™ world light-welterweight champion, Las Vegas-based Los Angeles native Jessie Vargas, 26-0 (9), is moving up a division for this 12-round welter contest against Palm Springs, Californiaโ€™s pound-for-pound-rated Timothy Bradley, 31-1-1 (12) 1NC. However, competing at 147lbs will be nothing new for Vargas, who has fought at the weight regularly in the past.

The bout was originally scheduled to be for the WBO welterweight title โ€“ a belt Floyd Mayweather wrested from Manny Pacquiaoโ€™s grasp last month. The WBO were under the impression that Mayweather had chosen to relinquish the crown shortly after his clash with Pacquiao โ€“ a claim Floyd later disputed. Consequently, the sanctioning body have granted the pay-per-view king until July 3 to decide whether or not he wishes to vacate the championship, meaning only the vacant Interim WBO 147lb strap will be up for grabs this weekend.

Undercard

TWO-TIME Mexican Olympian Oscar Valdez, 15-0 (14), of Nogales, can win inside-schedule against countryman and ex-Interim WBA title challenger Ruben Tamayo, 25-5-4 (17) โ€“ a southpaw from Sonora โ€“ over 10 sessions at featherweight.
