Super-heavyweight Cam Awesome has come through this year, winning a good international medal, bronze at the Pan-American Games. But he’s shot to fame not due to his performance in the ring but for a comment in the post-bout interview after his losing contest when, amongst other things, he declared himself the “Taylor Swift of boxing.”
“It takes a lot of boxing skills but it also takes being relevant to continue your boxing career at the level you want to. There’s great guys who box who don’t know how to market themselves and no one knows who they are so no one sees them fight. I need to get myself out there. Although I’m overly emotional when I take a loss,” Awesome (yes, he did formally change his name) told Boxing News. “I think I probably got more attention in the last month than I did in my whole entire career.”
