ANTONIO MARGARITO will continue his comeback against Ramon Alvarez, older brother of Canelo Alvarez, in Mexico on August 13.

The former welterweight world champion returned from a four-and-a-half year hiatus in March when he struggled past the limited Jorge Paez, rising from a sixth-round knockdown to win on points.

The 38-year-old retired from boxing in 2011 after Miguel Cotto gained revenge over him, bludgeoning him into defeat after nine rounds. In 2010 Manny Pacquiao had battered his right eye so much the socket needed reconstructing, and that same eye was badly damaged against Paez.

He will fight Alvarez at the Centro De Convenciones in Rosarito over 10 rounds. Ramon, who spars with his superstar younger brother, is undefeated since 2012, though his opposition has been worryingly obscure.

In 2009 the villianous Margarito was found to be wearing loaded hand wraps ahead of his fight with Shane Mosley, and the wraps were subsequently replaced with legal ones. This lead many to believe he had worn such wraps during his first fight with Cotto, in which he warped the Puerto Rican’s features over 11 punishing rounds – though it was never proven.

His fight with Alvarez was originally slated for July but was pushed back. Margarito, rather optimistically, hopes a win over Ramon will lure his flame-haired brother into the ring with him.
